Designed with Greg VanMechlen, Architect and DSA Architects, the Shorebird Nature Center is the first public straw-bale building in the country. Roof mounted photovoltaic roof panels generate electricity for the center, which is heated with warmth from the sun. School children learn about the ecosystem of the bay while experiencing first hand an energy-efficient, sustainable building technique.
